Default Calling station

Newbie hand #2, head-to-head with a calling station.

Opponent is loose-passive, VPIP of 75 and PFR of 0.0 over 60 hands. I guess his bet on the river was a clue, but I had just then finally made my pair.

I'm about 50/50 for calling and raising the river.

Heads up, I fire a bet on the turn and take a free showdown on a river blank. Taking the free card on the turn is alright, though. This hand is fine.

I think your play is fine. I might even call one here on the river even if it wasn't an A or K because your turn check might have induced a bluff from him, even a LP-P, although I am less likely to do this against an LP-P, than someone with a high after flop aggression factor.

When you checked the turn, he may believe his Q is good or even his ten. Sure AJ, J9, KQ, KT or KQ all beat you but I think he is more likely to be betting a lone queen, ten or his own king that you have outkicked so it is a value raise. even if you lost this time.

I would bet the turn.

River raise is probably a good play. Remember that after you show weakness, lots of people will auto bet the river. If he is bluffing, there is no need to raise. Given that he has done nothing but check the whole hand, I see no reason to put him on 2 pair.

I'd also bet the turn.
