Default Was this the right play?

Played in a live tourney. 80 players, final table pays, down to two tables. The blinds go up and I post 4K in the SB and now I have 3K in front of me. Everyone folds to the button who goes all in for somewhere around 6K. I have 9-3o and called my last 3K. The BB had less then me also and had about 4K. There was 3K in antes also. About 6-1 on my money. I have pretty much no chance of getting the final table if I fold and have 3K left and 4K-8K blinds. That was the right play, right? The button had 77 and the BB had something like 2-4. I'm asking because the guy started cussing and saying stuff like " how the **** do you call with 9-3?" when I hit a 9 on the turn.

Sometimes you need to gamble. There can be valid arguments made for waiting for a better hand with your last 3k, however with only two other players in the hand and getting 6:1, calling is not necessarily the wrong thing to do.

A call is correct unless you want to play one more hand for some wrong reason.

I probably would've been all in on my BB.

But yes, you need to have your chips in here getting these odds.

I was really thinking about calling all in on my BB with Q-8o. But a big stack went all in and a big stack called. I thought for sure they had a big pair or at least AQ. I would've flopped a straight, but got rivered by a bigger straight.
