Getting Comped
Ok, It's my first trip to vegas where i'll be playing something other than poker. I've got my blackjack basic strat down cold and know the best craps bets. anyway, if i'm playing $100-$200 a hand of blackjack I know I should get treated pretty well given i play for a few hours a day.
I'm staying at the mandalay bay and want to make sure that they're keeping track. what's the best way to do this? should i speak to someone specific while checking in and let them know I'll be playing black chip craps and blackjack? should I just show up at the tables? Also, does the amount you buy in for make any difference? If I buy for 2K or 8K will it matter if i'm betting the same amount either way? |

Re: Getting Comped
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that they comp you on your average bet and the amount of time you play. You get a ranking based on how much the casino believes that you will lose on average per hour. They then comp you on this, so if you lose $1,000 in a minute, it means nothing... it's much better to loss over an extended period of time so they get a good feel for your play. They comp you better this way. Also to build your comps, take some breaks while at the table, miss the beginning of the shoe and wait to play the next one. This will pad your time while keeping up your average bet.
Of course the best way to get comps is to win |

Re: Getting Comped
Also
-get a comp card and give it to the dealer as soon as you sit down -tell the pit boss when you are leaving to make sure that he has recorded your play -I believe that buy-in doesn't matter so much If you don't have a host there yet, ask for one before you leave. With your kinda action, it shouldn't be a problem. |

Re: Getting Comped
Typically you are comped on amount of action x house advantage x 40%.
So for instance, if you bet black chip, play 200 hands/hour that means you give $20,000 worth of action. House advantage of BJ is about 0.5%, so the house expects a profit of $100. Of this they're willing to comp you 40% so you'll get $40 worth of comps per hour. After 3 hours you can probably get your room comped, after 5 hours probably a Room-Food-Beverage (RFB) comp. The trick is that it is the Pit Boss that keeps track of your action. So at the beginning of your session tell the pit boss (or the dealer who will tell the pit boss) that you want to be rated. Then make sure that most of the time he looks at you, you bet bigger, then revert back to normal betting when he isn't. This could make your rating better than what it really is. If everytime the pit boss looks at you, you have a $300 bet out, he might think that you are giving 3 times the action you really are giving. |

Re: Getting Comped
Find the One Club booth and get a player's card. If you play at any of the other member casinos (listed on that page), your play at those casinos will be counted on the same card.
When you buy in at the table, toss your money and your card on the table. If you forget to give them you're card and you're playing $100+/hand, they'll ask you. Doesn't really matter how much you buy in for. |
