for those who play on both a desktop and a laptop

i just got a new laptop and was wondering how often others merge their poker tracker databases and how do you do this?

thanks for the link. now for the really dumb question. if i only have a cd drive. can i copy the files onto a cd? can i email the files to myself? what do others do? how often do you recommend merging and do you do it on both systems?

Either get a thumb drive or an external hard drive.

external USB hard drive the best solution IMHO, that way you don't have to merge (which is a real annoyance, esp. with large db's), you just plug drive into the appropraite computer.

Another option to consider is playing on your regular PC on your laptop via Remote desktop (a feature built into windows xp). It works pretty well depending on what type of network connection you use.

[/ QUOTE ]How do you only have a CDDrive on a computer that plays online poker? Even if you just have a modem, you could dial-up from one machine to the other for a transfer. (I'm not sure if it's easier than thumb-drive.)

I typically split play between my laptop and my desktop (silly since the desktop has the 2 2001FP's). I just make sure that I save my new laptop hands in a file and transfer it to the desktop using a flash drive once or twice a month.

So my laptop database is a bit incomplete but I cant be bothered to keep transfering back and forth.

I use the same database over a network share, but if you mean to use your laptop out and about this is no good to you. Its also a bit of a pain to get PA to properly use the db too. You could just copy the database from your pc and laptop and visa versa when you are home, so you always have the up to date file on the computer you are using at the time. This would require a network connection at home.

thanks for the input. i don't know anything about external hard drives but i will look into it. any recommendations? otherwise, i think i might just keep the databases separate. i really won't be playing much on my laptop. only when i travel, which isn't often. in fact, i have barely used my laptop so i hope i don't regret buying it. i'm sure i'll be glad i bought it the next time i take a trip somewhere and i'm able to play poker.
