Re: Aficionado\'s Of Poker Chips, Kem\'s, Copaq\'s.
Well, I would say for the same reason that:
Some prefer to eat at Outback over McDonalds Some prefer to shop for brand name clothing over thrift stores Some prefer to attend college instead of buying a diploma through the mail Some prefer to have good furniture instead of going through someone else's garbage. For me, I like having good cards/chips because: 1) they last longer 2) I like nice things 3) I can afford it |

Outback? [/ QUOTE ] Sure, there are some $100 PPA steak chains that are better (Ruth's Chris), but Outback's pretty damn good for a Tuesday night. At least compared to Micky D's. Ten |

Yeah, there are plenty of truly high end places. For the best possible steak, Ruth's Chris is hard to beat unless you want to fly to Texas or Oklahoma. Either way, you'll be very unsatisfied eating at McDonalds ever again.

Mmmmm, Outback burger... won't get a steak there anymore, I always get a chewy one for some reason but that everything-you-want-on-it burger ROOLZ.

Re: Aficionado\'s Of Poker Chips, Kem\'s, Copaq\'s.
I do actually play poker. I have midline chips and nice cards, and they're definitely worth their cost.
The purely practical reason for having at least casino-style size and weight chips is they stack and count easier, which lets you get more hands in. Decent plastic cards stay flat, unmarked, and play well longer and misdeal less, again letting you get more hands in. The difference between playing with 3 decks of Copags and decent chips rather than a deck of bowed airline giveaways and Bicycle chips or cash is I'd say at least 10 hands an hour. That's enough for a second round, enough to get you over a bad run of cards, etc., i.e. money in my pocket. I have to say the chip obsession thing sometimes amazes me too although I'm kinda excited about the Pharaoh's buy. Good cards are essential though. People kinda laughed when I brought Kems around and said "These are what the pros play with"... next week though it was all "Did you bring those cards?" |

[/ QUOTE ] I start dealing with a deck of Kems or Copags for new people without announcement. Without fail someone remarks within the first couple of hands "These are nice cards" or "What kind of cards are these?" Then it's the same as Iron Butt's experience. People ask if you have them the next time. That plus the chips makes for good atmosphere. You get some people playing just for that. |
