Insert Tommy Maddox into the QB spot and look how badly the Steelers look against the Jaguars. That just shows it takes an above average QB to win games for the Steelers. Im not suggesting Tommy Maddox was an above average QB but he was suppose to be a couple years ago.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is silly.

A.) Maddox was dinged up. Remember, when Roth went down the previous week, it wasn't Maddox who stepped in, it was Batch, because Maddox was hurt. Next week, Batch is #2 on the depth chart behind Roth because Maddox is still hurt.

B.) Jax is a good team. Maddox lost in OT. Roth is only 1-1 vs good teams this year, Maddox is barely 0-1. Is Roth better than a healthy Maddox? Yeah, a small amount, but not tons.

C.) Maddox didn't have the dispossal of Pitt's other best offensive weapon, Hines Ward. Roth always did.

Quite simply, Maddox's performance vs Jax w/o Ward wasn't really worse than Roth's vs NE two weeks prior (W/ Ward).

We can start throwing sample size into the picture, too. But right now, there is no reason (as in NONE) to believe that Roth is tons better than Maddox.

He's big, shakes off sack attempts, gets the ball downfield, moves well, and is the highest rated QB in the league...or was a week or two ago, too lazy to check right now. He's underrated, imo.

All I know is Ben doesn't fumble the game away when it's on the line....

This is completely ridiculous. Did you watch both games? Do you call 1 TD and 4 Turnovers = to 2 TD's and no turnovers?

Are you gonna cut a guy who hasn't played in a year, is injured, is playing with players (FWP) he's never played with before, any slack?

Ben did throw 5 picks in 2 playoff games last year. Of course, those were when he was the everyday QB.

I picked horrible phraseology.

Given Maddox's performance, opponent, and personnel, and Roth's performance, opponent, and personnel, one cannot say that Roth has been better this year.

Jax's defense is far superior to NEs this year. They've forced NEARLY 5 TIMES AS MANY TURNOVERS AS NEW ENGLAND. They're allowing 80 fewer ypg.

And Maddox didn't have the full compliment of weapons Roth had.

Given all of this, you cannot say that Roth exhibited more talent than Maddox.

But, you are right. My previous phrasing was poor.

No, Ben has still been way better. At least two of the turnovers that Maddox had were unfored errors. Ben has not done that all year.

Against Jacksonville the Pittsburgh defense played a far superior game than they did against New England. And they had a special teams touchdown, as well as a kick return to set them up in field goal range in OT. Two unforced errors by Maddox later and the Steelers lost.

Agsint New England, Ben led the Steelers on a game tying drive with less than 1 and a half minutes left and the defense let Brady drive for the winning field goal at the end.
