Default First time in Vegas...just got back. ( long )

A couple people asked me to post about my first vegas trip when I got back...so here it is.

I just spent the weekend at the Lux. Some friends of my wife and I invited us out there for their wedding at the Bellagio. We were there Friday thru this morning.

When we got off the plane I was amazed to see just the mass of people that were arriving at the same time. It took us like an hour and 15 minutes just to get our bags and get outside. I'm from a pretty small town and seeing this was crazy.

The Lux is pretty cool. The pyramid stuff wasnt overly-cheesy. The poker room flat sucks. They have 2-4 and 50$ NL...aside from the random SnG or MTT (more like just two table MTT) Its basically looks like like some extra space that they threw a gate around and put poker tables in it. The Ameristar in St. Charles, MO (my closest card room) is even far superior.

The waitresses take about an hour a drink. I actually forgot one of the ones I ordered because it had been like 45 minutes from when I ordered it.
First off...walking on the strip sux. The damn stripper promo guys are freakin annoying. We finally figured out a way to get from the Lux to the Excaliber, a small walk to the Monte Carlo, and from there to the Bellagio by the free trams.

For anyone that hasnt been there the Bellagio has earned its rep for a reason. This place is freakin amazing. It truely the nicest place Ive ever seen. The wedding was gorgeous, and we were treated to a open, top shelf bar and a steak dinner. I was told later by the best man that the dinner alone was $300+ a plate. Im far from well off so this was quite a treat for me. We partied until the wee hours in their $2500.00 a night suite, which had a perfect view of the fountain show, the paris, and ceasers. They had freakin' plasma TVs in BOTH of its bathrooms, 11 ft. ceilings..it was just...wow.

We saw some sites. Unfortunately was forced to shop with my wife, got to see "Bite" at the Stratosphere...ect. (tourist stuff)

Anyways...pokerwise I was pretty disapointed with myself, My first 5 hours or so at 2/4 went pretty well other than a few suckouts, but the next 5-7 hours were spent drinking and lagging it up with the fishies. I ended up up down about $70 overall after about 12 hours or so total at 2/4. I seem to have a hard time staying focused in live games. I'l be honest I get bored of folding in full ring games. Im a multitable 6max player online and this 35 hands an hour stuff is just so slow compared to 300 hands an hour at 6max online (I know stating obvious) I really need some help in my live game getting over this retarded beginner's impatient stuff. I didnt do bad moneywise overall looking back since I was toking and tipping for drinks, but these games were just so soft that I feel a small sense of failure that I couldnt restrain myself to take advantage of it. I wasnt doing anything really wrong postflop but I was just playing too many hands for a 10 person table. Fortunately I got to sit in a short 5 handed game beore it broke and my inner-aggro helped me pick up some lost money from some tighties.
Overall It was a great time and I saw boobies at the stratosphere I'll be back for sure next summer.

Nice report, but the boobies portion could have used more detail.

Co-sign on the Luxor "poker room." It is very small and the waitresses do take a while for drinks. But there are some bad players there(like every casino lol). Last time I went I actually saw Dr. Al playing some 4/8.

Could you give me more info on the $50 NL? Was it a $50 minimum buy-in? Was there a maximum buy-in? And what were the blinds. Interesting report. I've never much liked the Luxor poker room--you should have walked to to the Excalibur....

"Could you give me more info on the $50 NL? Was it a $50 minimum buy-in? Was there a maximum buy-in?"

$50 min/max. BUT......
The moment you drop to $49, you can add another $50. So it's pretty much a $50 min/$99 max.

The blinds are $1, $1 & $2. If it is 6 handed or less the blinds can go to $1 & $2, if asked. Sometimes even if more then 6.

FWIW, my cocktails always come out fast there but I'm in there at 5:00 am (when I do play there).

I find the NL game there to be beyond super soft. YMMV

Best of Luck

Thanks. This is interesting. Forgive me for sounding dense, but I really am strictly a limit player. My husband loves NL, though. He usually plays at the $100 max/$40 min. buy-in tables with $1, $2 blinds. Do you think this would be better/worse, or about the same as those?
Only problem is if he plays at Luxor, that would mean I'd also being playing at the Luxor, which I've always hated for some reason....

Hi Gail,

I think the game should be fine for your husband but if either of you don't have a good time there, there are lots of low-limit/no-limit games in town that are often very good. MGM and Excalibur (and Trop & Mandalay Bay) are all within easy walking distance of the pyramid. Plus lots more in town.

Where ever you play, Best of Luck!

Howard

I heard that NL was super soft, but somebody said you need to get there early and build a big stack and then you can just push everybody around when they sit down with 50.

I bet you see some crazy suckouts in that game though with all ins with only a 50 buy in. Hell, now that I think about it I saw that at the 100 and 200 buy in tables.
