A different downswing question
After 3k hands of negative BB/100, is there anything tell-tale that I can check to see if this is a downswing or simply bad play? I stuck my worst money loss session in that PokerGrader website and all the results had big red "BAD LUCK" next to them, but I don't know how reputable that website is around here...
is there such a thing as "You spent 22.50 on SSHE so now here's a 22.50 drop in bankroll"? (it's not quite that bad, at .05/.10 it's more like 10 dollars...still depressing, but I'm not sure that luck is entirely/mostly to blame) |

Re: A different downswing question
review hands, post hands, respond to posts, study up. If you have shown that you have a good knowledge of the game, and you believe that you are still playing correctly after doing all of the above, then It's pretty safe to say that it's just a rin of bad luck

Re: A different downswing question
all the hands that I seem to be losing the massive amounts of money on are "Bad beat" posts...AQ hits trip Qs and loses to a Q7s which limp/called a raise Preflop, stuff like that. AKo, hit an Ace on flop and another on turn, but a guy with a set of 7s had me beat the whole time...that's 8BBs right there..

I feel you
Go to PT and filter the hands of your downswing and check the Went to Showdown and Won at Showdown % s. I know it can't tell the truth because you might still have a 60% win percentage but winning just the the 3BB pots while losing all the massive ones. It could be an indication that you are getting rivered all the time though. |

[/ QUOTE ] A better thing to do is to review how you played your hands. Are you down because of a few massive pots that didn't go your way, or are there lots of little pots which are contributing to a slow decline? Ultimately, the way to tell if you have bad luck or bad play is to know what good play is, and see if your play matches it. |

Re: A different downswing question
FWIW, when I am being a good player (as opposed to playing well) I review all my sessions. I find lots of errors during my downswings and lots of errors during my upswings. Try and get into the habit of reviewing your play regularly - it doesn't take too long - you'll be surprised how often you find mistakes, no matter how the hand / session / sessions came out in terms of results. You'll learn a lot too.
