Perhaps I've been out of the fish infested waters for too long. Good points.

I thought a cap was 5 bets in this hand. May have been wrong here too.

You're correct, which is even more reason to 4-bet the flop. It's capped 5 or 6 ways pre-flop. Nobody's going anywhere if they have any chance. By 4-betting, there's a better chance it'll end up getting capped all the way around on the flop, which is a good thing in this situation. In these type of games, the 4- and 5-bet on the flop will get no special measure of respect - often less than the initial raisers - since they're often viewed (as another poster mentioned) as "what the hell, let's save time" raises.
