Unforgiven is not only the best western of all time, it is the best movie of all time.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ssssoooooooo overrated. Really, WTF?

When Unforgiven came out and everyone talked about how good it was, I thought it was just because there hadn't been a really good Western in so long. It's a fun movie and everything, but come on, the best of all time, really.

As for the extras Swede mentioned, I would say Wyatt Earp is dog-doo-doo, but there really isn't a reason to include it on the list. It's long, which is synonomous w/ good nowadays. Costner is so bad, I can't see the movie doing well.

Anybody who hasnt seen Dead Man should not be allowed to vote in this.

[/ QUOTE ]

I thought the general rule was that you should only vote for pairs where you have seen both movies.

Also, your statement is ridiculous unless you have seen all 64 movies on the list.

This is the rule I abide by. Honestly, in this poll there will be quite a few first and second rounders that I won't be voting for; particularly involving the lesser known Wayne movies.

Don't know that it will make the cut (and it doesn't meet some of the requirments discussed e.g. it is set in the 1950's)- but anyone into westerns might want to check out:

Lonley are the Brave (1962)

I am biased towards it because it is based on Ed Abbey's novel The Brave Cowboy. It stars Kirk Douglas as Jack Burns- an old fashioned cowboy in the modern world and Walter Matthau as the sheriff pursuing him.

Kirk Douglas said in the LA times in 1989 "In the more than 60 films that I've made, this is my favorite"
