Default A5s UTG - Preflop Fold? (1/2)

Party 1/2 (9 handed)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">6 folds</font>

Never folded this before, but I'm trying to fix my 1/2 Full game primarily by tightening up.

I fold unless the table conditions are prime. I usually like having someone else in the pot before I limp with AXs in EP.

I would say a fold as a general rule. You will rarely be at a table THAT good where limping this UTG is good.

Yup UTG this is an auto-fold.

If you're folding Axs in UTG full ring, you're playing on the wrong table.

This is the kind of bad generalization that I used to follow. A "good table" for me consists of one loose player either to my right or 2 seats to my right, and tight players to my left (preferably passive but aggressive is okay too).

In UTG, the loose players are in the blinds or Button, and we have tight players after us. If they were passive, great, we paid 1 SB to see the flop against some loose players. However, if there's a decent chance it will be raised behind me, it's an easy fold.

check your poker tracker stats for small Axs hands. I did that and I was not doing too well with them. I usually fold, but I'll play it at a very loose/passive table.

I used to limp this UTG all the time, and then Droolie posted a breakdown of his stats showing that Axs was -EV for him in EP. I checked my own stats and damn if it wasn't the same for me.

Now I normally dump this unless I have a good reason not to.
