Default Popups

When I log onto different websites I keep getting popups and am unable to get rid of them..If I click on close or the x it doesn't go away...it just enlarges to a full screen..How can I eliminate them when they appear?

I am also having a problem with popups lately. For example, when i go to 2+2 i get pacific poker popups. If i go to a banking website, I'll get mortgage broker popups. Anyone know how to fix this? I've tried running Lavasoft adware and it hasn't solved the problem.

Use Firefox to browse and check Paul Phillips blog. A few articles ago, he put up some great extensions to use with Firefox. One of them blocks all ads from every site you surf!
Amazing. I think it deals with pop ups too. I can't even see the adds in between the forum topics on the left. Sites load faster this way.

Pop-ups are a direct result of spyware. Go to www.downoad.com and do a search for Spybot, and Adaware if you don't have it, download them, install and update them, then scan with them in safe mode and remove/delete all threats found. Also try Microsoft Anti-Spyware from none other than www.microsoft.com.

If you feel like you're computer saavy enough you can download and install "Hijack This" and remove the PUPS (potentially unwanted programs) found, though this program doesn't find the PUPS, it actually just lists the Browser Helper Objects, etc., and you select which ones to remove potentially damaging programs that worked fine before.
