Default nl 25

should i have just called the flop and saw the turn my river play was dependent on his bet size but the range of hands that i can put him on beat me. i think he was probably going for a turn check raise

I think your re-raise on the flop is fine. I would bet the turn. There is a possible straight draw on the table which you don't want to be drawing with infinite odds. Also , your loosing value against A 9. Also, you invite a bluff on the river. If your played back at on the turn, you can muck, knowing you are behind almost every time.

You're in great position with a good hand, why not raise preflop?

On the turn I'd fire out at least a $10 bet. You might be able to get people calling with TP or flush draw or maybe even a gutshot draw.

Also, because you checked the turn you may have induced a bluff on the river.

It seems like you're overthinking PP $25 is not the place to lay down your overpairs. Raising PF is especially important here with the MP poster, since you have no idea of his hand range. Raise more on the flop and bet the turn. People will pay you off with plenty, and you won't get pushed off hands in this fashion.
