You suck at poker.

I will repeat: you suck at poker.

It's okay. This does not make you dumb, or a bad person, or a terrorist. But you are demonstrating a COMPLETE lack of something essential to being a good poker play: willingness to listen and take criticism.

I was in a similar position as you once. I didn't understand why I was losing, and I was posting here about it. Then someone (forgot who) told me 1) I sucked at poker, and 2) I needed to accept that before I got better.

I DID suck at poker, but I thought I was good. But sometimes you have to eat it like a good little bitch. So I did. I played more, studied more, and got better. I'm not world class by any means, but I suck considerably less.

Now Jimmy, you have a couple of choices at this point. You can either accept the fact that you are not very good, and use that as motivation to improve, or you can keep losing money. It's yr choice. You are in the right place to get better. But if you refuse to listen and think you are a master of the game, I really have nothing more to add -- except to ask when/where I can get in a game with you.

im to lazy to read all of the responses so i might be a little repetitive...fist of all dont complain about bad beats, if you have spent as much time reading and studying as you say you should know where the money in poker comes from. (other peoples mistakes) as a side note and probably more importantly the rake at the 2/4 game is probably very tough to beat you should try to play online until you can play a bit higher.

If this is really your attitude you are headed down a bad path man. One that's gonna lead to your gambling losses snowballing. I'm guessing your wife already doesn't like the fact that you spend all this time at the casino and never come home a winner. She's may even be starting to question if you have a gambling problem. This isn't the time to get pissed, and just keep pushing.

I know you don't wanna hear it, but just from things you've said so far it is clear you don't understand poker enough to be a winning player right now, but you seem to enjoy and seem to wanna get better which is good.

So if you can put your ego aside for a minute and admit this to yourself then you're ready to learn. My advice to you would be to start playing online at the micro limits. You can learn a lot from these games without putting much stress on your income. Read Homer's post in the internet forum titled "building a bankroll for newbies", follow a lot of the advice in there to help you build up a bankroll. Read all the posts you can in the micro-limit and small stakes forum, and ask educated questions about aspects of your game. Post hands for discussion and attempt to discuss others hands.

Finally you say you've read books. A lot of players have read books, and a lot of players either 1. don't comprehend to the level that they can fully apply what they're reading or 2. are reading the wrong books. There's plenty of books out there that are completely worthless, don't trust everything you read.
