10 dollar rebuy, folding an overpair
64 left in Prima 10+1 Rebuy I have ~35K and am in 10th place, get JJ in MP.
Blinds 500/1K UTG limps, UTG+1 raises to 3K, I call, UTG calls 3 to the flop. Flop is 10h 4d 8h (POT 10500) UTG bets 5K, UTG+1 raises to 10K, I fold. I thought this was pretty standard but am open to other opinions on flop and preflop play. |

I'm surprised you haven't got any answers on this yet. I haven't replied because I'm torn...still thinking about it.

Re: 10 dollar rebuy, folding an overpair
how many players cash? if you need to get to the top 2 or 3 to make money i would consider going all in if UTG+1 had a small stack. when UTG underbets the pot there is a good chance that UTG+1 is trying to steal or is semibluffing a fourflush in which case he will fold. but if he has a decent stack you made the right play.

Re: 10 dollar rebuy, folding an overpair
Top 40 cash...but I'm only interested in final table money.
Both players had me covered. The mini-raise is what scared me off this hand...basically I have two areas I'd like opinions on.. Is calling the best play preflop? Is folding the best play on the flop? I have no real reads on these players and this IS a low buy in rebuy tourney...however I think that the second player showed a lot of strength on the flop.. |

What are your opponents stack sizes? This is pretty damn important.

[/ QUOTE ] Grifter, I think knowing your opponents' stack sizes in absolute terms would be useful, especially UTG+1. If UTG+1 has a fairly large stack, say 100K, then his flop raise to 10K really isn't as scary; in that case if I had your JJ I would probably push, believing my hand was best. With a stack that big, UTG+1 might easily have a hand like AK or KQ (in other words, just playing around, trying to push you and the flop bettor out of the pot). On the other hand, if UTG+1 has something like 40K or 50K, then you have to take his raise to 10K as indicating more strength -- he believes that he has the best hand. |

Re: 10 dollar rebuy, folding an overpair
I like the play. I don't think you need to get involved here with all this action, recognizing that sometimes you will be laying down the best hand.
Preflop it's a little dicey to flat call with so many people left to act, because I think you have to fold to any reraise. But it's less than 10% of your stack so I think it's OK. The flop play here is a great example of the value of position, by the way. You got to make your decision with the benefit of a lot more information than you otherwise would have. |

Re: 10 dollar rebuy, folding an overpair
Fnurt,
Given the table dynamics I didn't think anyone else would come along behind me. I don't like folding in this spot and a raise could have been trouble. The benefit to a raise of course is that it helps me define my opponents hand, but at too great a cost in this instantce imo. |

I imagine I play it the same.
