Default Report: Lakers trade for Kwame Brown

ESPN.com is reporting that the Lakers have traded Caron Butler and either Chuckie Atkins or Devon George to the Wizards for Kwame Brown.

as a Laker Fan I actually like this trade even though it is a gamble. Butler is a good player and the better player but the Lakers were just to jammed at the SF position and light at the PF spot. This will allow Butler to slide over to SF fulltime which possibly good help with chemistry. Also there is chance that Brown could still develope under Jackson into a good player.

If Phil Jackson doesn't commit suicide before the season even starts I'll be surprised. He can't be liking the way things are going. Drafting a 17 year old and then acquiring arguably the biggest #1 bust of all time. Way to go Lakers management. RIP Phil's reputation.

The guy is 23. He's never going to be a superstar, but under the right system he could still be a productive player. I think a bit more time needs to pass before we can make this evaluation.

I like the deal. It's not equal value, but both teams should be better.

I think that gave up too much with Caron. He's a fantastic player imo. But who knows? Maybe Phil will work his magic and turn Kwame into a good player.

I agree about Caron but there just was not enough minutes for him on The Laker roster. Odom cannot play 4 in the west but he can be a great 3. It would have been nice if they could have gotten a proven player but I guess at some point you have to take what you can get.

Phil's MO is getting already great players to play great together, not developing teens into stars. Seems like he's the wrong man for the job. He's got a 3 year contract, and half of his players won't even have pubes before then.

Agreed. Here's an interesting article from realGM, which says that the Lakers situation might be perfect for Kwame, since he thrives off touches (and he instantly become the Lakers' 3rd option): http://www.realgm.com/src_goaltendin...n_kwame_brown/

I like the deal. Caron is a very good player, but as mentioned, Lakers are stacked at SF. Giving away Atkins is bad, he was very solid down the stretch last year. Kwame gives them another big body to block shots, rebound, and post up. Mihm, Kwame, and Odom is an awfully long front line, should be very solid defensively.
