You should realize that short of extremely drastic measures neither you nor your sister will ever be able to stop him from smoking weed. All 16 yr old kids go out with their friends unsupervised, and that means that he can smoke if he wants to. Keeping him from ever seeing his friends is going to be nearly impossible and will [censored] him up more than weed could.

This means that your only hope is educate him so he'll make better decisions on his own (like not posting pictures of himself stoned). Whether you or your sister can do this better is something you'll have to figure out.

fwiw I was smoking weed when I was 16, and I think it was actually a good thing for me then (but I was also doing well in school at the time). I got caught once and my dad basically said a) never drive stoned, and b) don't be stupid about this and do it where you could get caught. I took that advice to heart and I'm sure it helped me much more than "drugs are bad, m'kay?" ever would have.

i answered no to this poll. i didn't really think about it though.

then i realized this is your brother or sister's son. at first i thought it was your cousin's son (don't ask why) in which case i wouldn't. but if it's your brother or sister, i might bring it up. especially if the kid needs direction. i'd also gauge it on how my sibling would react.

Print out the pictures and leave them around his house. So he knows someone knows. But he is not sure who.

You should tell your sister. She is going to need to be involved because she is the only person who can punish him and watch him to make sure he stays clean.

If he is doing bad in school and is stupid enough to post this stuff on-line, then he clearly can't afford to lose any more brain cells.

16 is to young. Stop him now. If he does poorly in his studies now this only contributes.

Your best option is to teach him by example. By that I mean, you yourself should start heavily using pot. Let him see how it can make you lazy and stupid. Worst case scenario - you will be the "cool uncle".
