Default Home Game pay-out dillema, 1st is skewed?

Hi folks. I play in a weekly 20$ buy-in tourny with a bunch of friends, and we've recently decided to come up with a payout sheet for each possible prize pool considering an optional 10$ half re-buy. This is so we can avoid confusion come payout time.

The current payout structure heavily favors 1st place, coming away with about 60% while 2nd and 3rd kinda get the scraps. I feel like this heavily favors the better players. Problem is I cant come up with a way to explain it to my buddies. And I feel like the 50/30/20 payout structure is better, bringing the edge down for better players? Is my thinking flawed? Maybe someone can explain it to me barney style. Ty

Why are you trying to bring down the edge for better players?

If your buddies don't want to play a skill based game, you could try bingo night.

Because its a friendly home game, with alot of unskilled players and a few good ones.

Or maybe we should just take after you, and have a nice circle jerk night instead? Nah thanks... lol

Maybe in casinos, but in home games and bar games, winner takes all or second getting their buyin back, first getting everything else is the norm around here. I got thrown out of a three table tourney once for suggesting that the winner getting 95% was anything other than perfect....

60/30/10 is a great payout for a home game. 50/30/20 is too flat

50/30/20 too flat? Wait until someone starts a game with the new 50/30/20, 10/10/10/10/10/10/10/10/10/10....

I use 50/30/20 at mine, when 3 places are paid. Nobody seems to mind.

IF 50/30/20 is too flat you wouldn't want to know how we payout. We always do first gets half - but with ten people we'd actually pay a 4th person I think...We set in stone our payout structrue for 3-12 players. (12 is or normal maximum w/no guests.) I can post our structure if you want - but not everyone here would like it. It works very well for our group though.
