Default suggestions wanted for PC purchase at NewEgg

I'm considering the following components from NewEgg:

http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishHis...amp;ID=1117940

I'd appreciate any alternate recommendations, as well as suggestions for a good PC forum to post this to. Particularly, is a 350W power supply adequate, and is the RAM compatible re: voltage, etc? I already have the parts not in the list on hand (hard drives, monitor, keyboard/mouse, wireless card).

This is for my wife, to be used for some graphic design (hobby, not pro) and some gaming (City of Heroes, WoW, etc). She doesn't want me to spend more than a grand, so I'm looking for alternate choices in the same general price range rather than ideas for moving up the scale.

Thanks,

Martin

120 bucks for a dvd writer?

Are you crazy?

200 for memory?

Also you could get the ati 9200 graphics card for about 100 less and it will work exactly the same.

You could spend about 550 and get a great gaming system. No need to get top of the line everything.

I specifically went as high as possible within the one grand limit (such as the choice to with the ATI X series instead of the 9000s), but definitely didn't go top of the line anything (3.0GHz processor, PC-2700 RAM, not close to high end).

If you care to put a $550 wish list together at NewEgg, I'd be happy to take a look at it, however. Thanks for the suggestions.

motherboards.org forum Post in the recommendation forums and you will get some really good responses. Quick look ... definitly change the memory to PC3200 minimum, CPU and motherboard both seem to support this. Later I will try to look more carefully at what your getting, but if you go to the forum linked you will get very good advice.

Marty why not try amd? Their processors are faster and on average about 50 percent cheaper than intel.

I dunno. I have been building systems for 7 years now, and have set up all kinds of configurations. Sometimes the customer demands intel or a certain type of hardware item. However my experience has been that AMD is a much better processor overall. Also most of the major benchmarks confirm Amd's superiority.

Thanks Caveman, will do.

I've had the 3200 RAM in and out of my cart a couple of times If that winds up as the concensus, I'll definitely go for it.
