Default Simple Question

you have 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
i have 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

flop is 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img]
turn is the jack of spades ( [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img])
river is the dreaded jack of clubs ( [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img])

he wins right
(i punched him silly after that river, all playful though, but I was still pissed [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img])

It's a split pot. You both have 999JJ as your best 5 cards. Though you were considerably ahead on the turn, he caught up (luckily), on the river

Guess I don't underwstand yet, because I thought the player with the highest card in hand would be the winner. [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

In Hold Em you are not required to use either of the two cards dealt to you. You simply need to make the best hand possible using the best 5 cards. In this case, neither person has one of the cards that makes up the best hand possible. They are both using the 5 cards face up on the table. It wouldn't matter if one of the two were playing 32 and the other was playing AK. They both have 999JJ.

In poker, whoever has the best high hand wins. A HAND CONSISTS OF 5 CARDS, AND 5 CARDS ONLY. In this pot, both players best 5 cards are 999JJ for a fullhouse. The other cards are irrelevant.
