Default FOND - DU - LUTH Casino in Duluth, MN

Anybody play there?

I was in town for a wedding this weekend. After the ceremonies died down we headed into town, and had a few beers at Fitger's (good stuff), and decided to check out a few spots in town. I went to look for my friend in the Casino and saw a sign that said 'Texas Holdem coming April 26th' or something like that. Sure enough, upstairs my friend is sitting in the 2-4 game. I was surprised, since most casinos (especially little-ass podunk casinos) don't usually have poker. but there it was.

you can tell it's new, though. nobody there quite had a handle on how things were supposed to be run. I heard rules being questioned several times at every table (there's only 4 tables) and the floor being unsure how to answer all of the questions. the dealer also told a player she couldn't pass chips to her husband at the same table, and when they complained, the dealer asked the table if anybody objected, and we all said 'no', so he let them pass the chips. (normally I would object on principle and to piss them off, but I'm not from there, and they were both horrible players, especially the husband, so I didn't mind if he got a few chips from her stack. also, the players all seemed pretty new, and it was kinda funny. I can't recall anything specific, but just certain comments and questions and references to playing 'just like Phil Hellmuth' and that sort of thing, all pretty funny, I thought. I also sat next to an older gentleman who was pretty bad, and had a lot of hope that luck was going to change for him. however, he's gonna need a lot of luck because he didn't have a clue how to play the game.

I watched him on the river one hand. He was facing a bet and a call ahead of him, and he picked up his cards (high enough I would have to strain myself to avoid looking) and I saw he had a no-pair K-high hand. there were a couple possibilites on the board for straights, I believe. but he calls! he had not even a pair, and calls after a bet and a call! ludicrous! one pair beats him. any pair.

It sucked though. I kept playing tight, and folding crap and watching the hand, and I would have flopped or turned a winning 2pair hand 5 times (in the 1hr. we were there), would have ended up with a well disguised boat (the betting on the river was madcap anyway, as a flush and a straight were going at each other on the hand, and 2 flushes. I was very tempted to play the hands that I tossed (but would've won) but I knew they were bad hands, so I dropped them.
