AK facing a raise. What do I do?
Party Poker $30+3 NL Holdem tourney. 650 entrants. 650,000 chips in play. Top 70 spots pay and there are 16 players left. I have 54,560. Not much difference in the next two spots up in the money. Blinds are currently 2000-4000.
I am dealt AK offsuit under the gun and raise it to 10,000. The player two to my left raises all in to 31,687. Another player calls all in with his last 15,000. And it's folded back to me. My image at the table is a little loose because I've been caught stealing blinds a couple of times against small stacks and had to show down my mediocre cards. Other than than I don't have much of a read on the other players. If I call, I have all 5 cards to hit top pair and top kicker and I will be in great position to make the final table where the money really steps up. If I fold I will only have 11 times the big blind left and the blinds are going up fast. Is folding the right play here? I'll give you the results later. |

Re: AK facing a raise. What do I do?
I think they both move in with lots worse than KK or AA. I think that's enough to making calling the clear move.

very easy call, the pot is laying you great odds against two desperate players.

Absolutely call. You need to make a move and now is the time.

Call. Especially if they might think you are loose from previous steal attempts.

Re: AK facing a raise. What do I do?
Results: I called.
The first all in had A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] and the second all in for 15000 had Queens. The board came out with 3 diamonds and I was crippled and the nut flush became the chip leader. I'm actually surprised that you all said call. |

Re: AK facing a raise. What do I do?
You can't let this go with 63K in the pot - that you can call down for 22K more - that's a 3-1 overlay. Call, you probably have the best hand or are in a 3-way coin flip.

Re: AK facing a raise. What do I do?
You have to call. You already have 10k in the pot, and it's only 22k more to call on a hand you are likely to have the best hand, or at the worst..as someone said, a 3 way coinflip. You win, you have a great shot at winning the tournament, you lose, you're down, but far from out, you'd still have a great shot to come back.
