Default Bay Area Info Needed

My buddy called me from SF saying he was going to hit up a card room and wanted some info. He's looking at the Oaks and CA Grand. He's in the NE part of SF. Anybody have some info/advice that I can pass along? Looking for 2/4 through 6/12 limits. I browsed through the first 10 pages or so of this forum but didn't see anything. Thanks in advance.

He's probably closest to the oaks or Lucky Chances. LC's has 3-6, 6-12, 9-18, 20-40 and NL.
Oaks has as low as 1-2, 2-4,3-6,6-12, 15-30.

Oaks is in a pretty shady area. LC's is pretty safe with garage parking w/ free valet.
You pay time at the oaks ($5 / half hour) and you pay a rake at LC ($3 / hand).

good luck.

CA Grand is in Pacheco, probably 30-40min drive from SF. Smaller room, 10-15 tables, they spread 3-6, 6-12, 12-24. Games are very soft.

Oaks is light on mid-limit games. Often there's only one and at most two $6-12 games going and one $15/30 game going. Lucy Chances you'll find a few more tables of $6-12 as well as a $9/18 game and a $20-40 which Oaks doesn't offer.

Oaks has tons of $2-4 tables and both cardrooms have similar numbers of $3-6.

Food, chairs, general atmosphere is better at Lucy Chances and you can get there via BART as well as car.

Player skill level is mostly the same at both places although you'll find more so-called "pros" playing the $6-12 and $15-30 at Oaks.

Good luck!

Oh. I walked from Bart to the Oaks last year, looking pretty much like a dumb tourist with a camera around my neck, etc. Was this a mistake?

I'll put in a good word for Artichoke Joe's. Played there for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Very nice room. Very friendly staff. Very good games. Close to Bart and CalTrain. Not a lot of limits to choose from when I was there: 3-6, 6-12 or 15-30.

Food at the Oaks is hit or miss, but LC's is straight dismal. you have to give the food nod to the Oaks.

One thing no one's mentioned. the Oaks is cheaper at the lower limits. they have a time charge (4/half for 3-6, 10 handed tables; 5/half for 6-12, etc). every place drops a dollar jackpot tax.
The Oaks as a 15K cap on the JP, but it's AAATT beat to hit. LC's and AJ's have a 100K cap, but it's quads beat.

Oaks players are more likely to be passive (both the loose and tight varieties) than the clubs to the west. LC's and AJ's have more of the classic LAG types there.
