I got a similair e-mail a long time ago. It gave a list of addition problems and asked to think of a color and a tool. 98% of Americans say Red and hammer. The reasing is that the addition problems clear your mind, which makes you think of the most common answers. Hammer is the most common tool and red is probably the first color we learn about. This is probably the same reason the carrot thing works out.

Test 1: I guesed 25, it guessed 7.
Test 2: I thought of cucumber, it guessed carrot.
Test 3: I guessed blue and hammer, it guessed red and hammer.

I messed up on test 1, and it got half of my answer on test 3. Overall, I am not impressed at all.

Actually, it *is* sort of neat. I did the next two tests and I thought of the things that it said I was going to think of.

On a related note, my sister got a little handheld "20 questions" game for Christmas. Now *this* was cool. It managed to guess what I was thinking of about 90% of the time. There was a bunch of times where I thought it was totally going down the wrong path with its questions, but still managed to guess what I was thinking of by the end.

I won one of those in my office yankee swap. It guesses right abot 90%, and I am very impressed. It even gets rediculous things like nutrino.
