Default Bet A high on the river

Say you have AK in the big blind.
A couple of players limp, you raise.
You miss the flop but its not too scarry so you bet anyway.
You get one caller and are out of position for the rest of the hand.

The caller is semi-loose and you cant really put him on a hand. He could be on a draw or he could have hit a pair.

The turn is a blank, you bet trying to steal the pot, he calls.

The river is blank.

What do you do? Do you make the final bet with A high? Do you check/fold, check/call or what?

You need WAY WAY more information to know what is correct.

If you include the exact number of limpers, a read on the guy who is calling you, the exact cards on the board and in your hand, and the position of the caller, then we can probably answer the question.

You have to include the likely draws for us to make a reasonable decision. If the board is K72 rainbow, then he's probably not on a draw. If it's 78T, 2 hearts, he could much more easily be on a draw.

Ok, I wasn't very clear here.

I was looking for a more general sense answer.

I mean: What do you consider? Where do you draw the line? How do you reason?

But I suppose you are right. I get back with specific hands instead.

Here is a hand where I value bet AK high on the river OOP and did in fact extract value. Opponent was loose-passive-ish...but not a total idiot. And I'd been aggressive.
