Default Very cool AJs hand (plus hand reading)

I've been at this table for a long time, but it's the villain's first orbit.

Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. CO posts a blind of $0.5.
UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, 1 fold, Hero raises, 2 folds, Button calls, SB calls, 1 fold, UTG calls, UTG+1 calls.

Flop: (12 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB bets, UTG calls, UTG+1 folds, Hero raises, Button folds, SB calls, UTG calls.

Turn: (9 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB bets, UTG calls, Hero raises, SB calls, UTG folds.

River: (14 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB bets, Hero raises...

This is the weirdest action that I've seen in a long time (in a hand that I've participated in). I figure that villain is bluffing. I'm prepared to call a three-bet. How's my play?

For a fun hand-reading exercise, if the villain isn't bluffing, and isn't tricky, what does he have?

I think SB has a lower J here, if he really is a rock.

Two cards, plus explanation, please, IF he's not bluffing.

Ok. KJs I guess, and he is pulling the stop and go because he hasn't figured out how to check-raise? I can't see a rock doing it with anything else except maybe an overpair.

I've edited the OP to remove PT stuff (as 9 hands is WAY to small, statistically, to be useful). Sorry for the distraction.

Edit: previously stated that after 9 hands, pt had him as a rock (played one hand and folded it or called down).

I'd say he has QJ-J7. I've seen this line a fair amount from players who have a hand, but are too afraid to go multiple bets on any given street.

I think your play is fine.

Ok.

I think he either has a lower J, or a flush draw(now a flush).

88, 55? Doesn't really explain the lack of 3-betting the river though...

Blind response: Villain has a jack, and his cards maybe suited. I'm guessing QJs because I feel like it.
