Default Two Books

I'm thinking of getting Mike Caro's Book of poker tells and Johnny Chan's book. Are they worth it?

Yes, and by all accounts, no, respectively.

Caro's book is overrated. Read it eventually, but you don't need to make it a priority.

You should definately read Caro's book. Even if you disagree with the importance of these tells, many of your opponents have read and are aware of them.

Johnny Chan's book is very nice to look at. Glossy pages and hand examples look cool, but it tries to cover the entire topic of casino poker. It's supposed to be the 1st in a series with the rest being a little more in depth and content more insightful. It's a beginner book for live cardroom play. If I had the chance I would have waited and read this book in passing, not paid the new release price. His next book looks like it's on cash game limit hold'em according to Amazon. It's due out next year, I forget when.

By Mike Caro's book, pass on Johnny Chan (unless you want that type of book) and wait for his next one to be picked apart by 2+2 before buying. I'd really like to see Johnny Chan do an in depth book and insightful strategy book on the forms of poker plays and dominates. Including tournaments. It would be nice to read substance for a change.
