Hi Chisness,

If you are going to get a new watch, then a Rolex is a nice choice, but there are other choices. For example, the Omega Seamaster is a great watch, and not as much money. That first one you listed is terrible, BTW. If you want multiple times, get a Rolex GMT.

Another option is a vintage watch. I have an old Rolex and it's unique and cool (50+ yrs old). Several of today's designs are simply retro designs reborn - you might as well get the original. Nobody else will have one.

The problem with buying high-end vintage watches is that there are fakes. If a price seems too good to believe, it is. However, I have bought several watches from these guys, and they are all top-notch:

I wouldn't hesistate to buy a Patek or Rolex from these guys over the web. It will be a great watch, and all original if they state it.

Good luck,
Sucker

J.A. Sucker - thanks for the vintage watch site rec.

Chisness - this site has a nice selection of watches - I can't vouch for it personally as I've never used it, but a friend of mine (big watch guy, owns like 20 or so) buys from them on occasion- Ashford

JA,

thanks a lot for your post. i agree that rolex is a very good choice for someone younger as the designs are generally fairly sporty but also can be dressy. of course, the name is great cause it's very recognized (though there are far better makes) and very imitated.

i was thinking that i'd get the JC (first one) for college then sell it and switch for a Yachtmaster or Datejust after college. admittedly the JC is cheaply made and fairly ridiculous, but it might be cool to have at this time (since this is about the only time it'd be wearable).

is this plan reasonable? if i did get it, do you think a diamond bracelet would be serious overkill/retarded or cool?

if not, how about something like the following, or do you think i should wait till i'm far older?

Did I think any douche bag with money can buy some ugly ass rolex, tag, or movado but if you have real class you should find something different.

or for black.

Plus having two nice watches one for brown one for black shoes is much cooler, IMO.

Note, new rolex are automatic wind movement with your body. They can't just sit around, you would want them in a box that rotates.

Also the have issues if you golf or do sudden movements that they can get ruined and expensive repairs. But if you got one, the platinum rolex is the way for young people.
