Flipping is allowed is some poker rooms, but not all. I'm not a big fan of showing cards to get a reaction. 1) it's an amateur move, 2) you've giving your opponent information that he/she wouldn't have if you folded face down and 3) against a good player with some acting ability, he'll act in a manner that will cause you do exactly what he wants you to do. Given what you've written, you've probably got him beat. Having said that, why go to war with 10s? You've put $140 into the pot and he just put you in a position to call $600 to win $880. Do you really think you're that much of a favorite?

Do you realize you don't actually need to be a favorite to make that call?

Yes, I realize he doesn't need to be a favorite. If you want to get technical, you don't need to be a favorite to call any bet because the worst pot odds you can have is 50:50. My point was that he has 10s on an 8 high/paired flop with straight/flush possibilities. He's about a 2:1 favorite against open ended straight draw or flush draw, 3:1 favorite vs over cards, 3:2 favorite vs. open ended straight flush, 10:1 favorite vs. 9s/7s, 9:1 dog vs. JJ/QQ/KK/AA and 4.5:1 dog if this guy hit 6s full. If his opponent is on any type of draw, he's created the pot odds for hitting it. If I had to guess, I'd put the other guy on a mid pocket pair/draw. In either situation hero is a favorite, but we're talking about a considerable amount of money for just 10s.

I play in a 2-5 NL game regularly, I've actually seen this type of flip move before (and don't really understand it.)

Anyway, you're getting 1.5 to 1 on your money so why call (esp. when he's moving in on a nothing pot?) If he has an 8 then surely there are easier ways to suck money out of you. It seems like he has something, but he is trying to protect it. The only things that come to mind would be A6 (but that's pretty loose PF), or possibly JJ or QQ.

If he's really the type of player to push all-in on a nothing pot with a flush draw or two big cards, then you'll find a way to take his money anyway.

I think it's a fold.

Since I wasn't there and didn't observe his demeanor pre-flop/after exposing your hand, I can't get a read off the guy. All things being equal, I fold.
