Default BANK ROLL

HI ALL,

I have a silly question. Been a student of the game for about 10years read all the books study consistantly, win fairly consistantly but have never been able to really get this question answered. Here it is

If i have say a $1000 bankroll to start, what limit games should i be sitting at with a pretty good amount of skill? 5-10, 10-20,15-30???? Is there a percentage of bankroll as a rule of thumb i should not go over???

I know it;;s a silly question but would appreciate any help

Thanks

300BB is the rule, so 3/6 for you.

You should have a bankroll that equals 300 times the big bet - so $1,800 for a 3/6 game. 300 x 6 = $1800

I'd even play 2/4. The 2/4 recommended bankroll is 1200 and you dont even have that. Besides it's a good game anyways and if you truely are good enough you should be able to get to 3/6 pretty quick.

Goodluck

You obviously didn't do this " read all the books study consistantly"

if you are asking this "If i have say a $1000 bankroll to start, what limit games should i be sitting at with a pretty good amount of skill? 5-10, 10-20,15-30???? Is there a percentage of bankroll as a rule of thumb i should not go over???"

Mason has this covered in one of his poker Essay books.

there a couple factors other than to just go by 300BBs as a rule:

1st: online play requires a much higher bankroll than B&M as the players are generally better and your variance per hour goes up since you see more hands and players are more unpredictable.

2nd: what happens if you lose? can you afford to put more money toward poker? if you can then your bankroll is a lot higher than just 1000 at this point. however, if this is all your expendable money then i would certainly err towards the very low limits with only 1000$

3. do you care if you have to move down? You could certainly play 5-10 with a 1000 but if you lost a couple hundred you would have to move down probably to 1-2.

So, if you are playing online i would recommend 2-4, or, if you can add more money along the way, 3-6 . Playing live in a good game you should be able to play 5-10 but drop to 2-4 if you lose 500 at this level.

Your entire post is better suited for the beginners forum. and if you have to ask questions about bankroll or what 300bb means its pretty clear you haven't been studying consistently for 10 years.
