Re: Quick Poll: Do you chop?
I go with the flow. I never suggest a chop, but will oblige a neighbor who requsts to do so.

Re: Quick Poll: Do you chop?
I prefer to chop the blinds in a raked game that is not shorthanded as the Casino does not take a rake when you chop. I do not look at my cards however as I don't want to drive myself crazy if I get a great hand. Since the decision to chop is usually made in advance, it is unethical to change your mind if you wake up with a hand, although I do see it from time to time and it causes a great deal of ill will at the table.

Re: Quick Poll: Do you chop?
Its because its stupid and obnoxious. Actually last weekend, the 2 guys to my left were the blinds and it was folded to them, the BB said he didn't chop, he had AK, there wasn't much action, but he just didn't chop. About 2 orbits later, it was folded to him when I was the BB. I hadn't looked, but he gave me that "chop?" look with his cards ready to be mucked. I just said to him, "you don't chop, remember." I had utter cheese but won it with flop bet, but it was just the point.

Good for you for not letting him get away with that crap.

Re: Quick Poll: Do you chop?
I never chop. I don't play many hands as it is so I have to try to make the best out of whatever is dealt to me.

Re: Quick Poll: Do you chop?
Being new to Hold Em, I'm also new to the idea of chopping.
The other day at a B&M, I was in the middle of a real crappy run of cards. Finally got dealt a great hand (QQ) in the SB. Everyone folded around. The BB wanted to chop. I only knew what he was talking about because I'd already seen it happen on a previous hand, but I was a little annoyed that the first time I got a decent hand in the last hour, all the action I was going to see for it was one dollar net. I refused, and the BB made a big deal out of folding to me, while the rest of the table looked at me as if I'd just broken wind in church. I guess in the future, I'll go along to get along. I mean, in retrospect, it just didn't seem worth pissing all those people off. |

That's why I chop. Even though I think it's unfair to get pissed for wanting to play it out. It's just not worth looking like the table jerk. Especially considering how ofter I get a decent hand in the blinds and have it folded around. |

Re: Quick Poll: Do you chop?
If you don't want to chop, that's fine, don't chop. Just don't ever chop. Not with QQ, not with 32o. I actually was surrounded by players last week that didn't chop. My other posts mentions the guy on my right trying a chit move, but he wasn't there long. The one that replaced him never chopped. I'm fine with that. I think its dumb since the games are raked, but its his prerogative. As long as your consistent, you're in good graces. If you're worried about the table looking at you weird, when you sit down, tell your neighbors, "hey, nothing personal, but I don't chop." They usually won't care and won't be surprised if the situation comes up.

Depends...
I'll always do whatever my neighbor prefers to do. If my neighbor doesn't have a strong preference, I suggest chopping in raked games, and playing in time games.
