Just how bad was this play?
I played a careful game to get into the money, but 2 mates were watching me play so for some reason I go and do this:
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t150 (3 handed) converter Hero (t2315) Button (t4820) SB (t6365) Preflop: Hero is BB with 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Button raises to t400, 1 fold, Hero calls t250. Flop: (t875) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks, Button bets t300, Hero raises to t1915, Button calls t1615. Turn: (t4705) 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) River: (t4705) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Final Pot: t4705 Results in white below: Hero has 9h 9s (one pair, nines). Button has Kc Tc (two pair, kings and tens). Outcome: Button wins t4705. Obviously I got a load of stick from the guys watching. I tried half-heartedly to justify it - something about wanting to see a flop so I could push if it look safe, or get out if it looked bad. Was this an plain awful play, or merely ill-advised? |

I would push preflop.

Re: Just how bad was this play?
Push preflop.
Flop is odd. With just a T, I think your hand is good. T950 in the middle, t2k left about. Push or check time... I shove here. |

I would push preflop. [/ QUOTE ] ditto. you don't have enough chips to C/R the flop. |

Re: Just how bad was this play?
If you fully expect the Button to continue on this flop even if he misses, then the check-raise is fine. However, you are better off pushing preflop with 99 because you have enough chips left to make the Button fold hands like KT (maybe) as well as many steal hands that could be raising here.
Pushing preflop also prevents the mistake of folding on a flop like AJ5 when you are still ahead. |

Re: Just how bad was this play?
Yup, gotta push this preflop. Button could be raising with a lot of hands, and in this spot you really dont have enough chips to take a flop with 99.

Re: Just how bad was this play?
You mean preflop as well?
Could be my bad, but I wouldn't even consider not pushing preflop. |

Re: Just how bad was this play?
I would just push preflop.
I don't even know why you posted this hand, if you aren't pushing it preflop then you are going in on any flop jack high and down. |

Seems fine to me. [/ QUOTE ] Why not push PF? The C/R isn't going to move him off top pair. Can you explain? thanks. |
