Default Advice on Moderating the WPT and Other Televised Tournaments Forum

In his PMs to me, Mat's comments about me moderating this forum were the bare essentials. He said:

You would have no obligation to do anything; the option would simply be at your disposal.

and

Please do not abuse this or these privileges may be revoked.

What, if any, problems do you think the forum has which you think can be improved through my weapon of choice:

The heavy duty actions (like banning posters) is something I'm leaving to Mat. I won't be banning anybody other than obvious spammers (like our religous friend of the past week).

I have no idea...

my biggest complaint is that when a professional (like Daniel N/Fossilman/Annie Duke/Paul Phillips/Jennifer Harmen) shows up, they're generally taunted/trolled away again - it's almost as bad as RGP -

christ, I remeber someone ragging Jennifer for the choice of top she wore during some WPT event....WTF? - She knows more about poker then virtually anyone else who would ever visit this forum, and do you think she'll come back and offer words of wisdom? - - Hell no.

I wish we could ban posters making infintile/rude comments to those folks so we could get some good insights on here - I can think of a few folks brains who I'd like to ask questions who don't show up anymore. - but if all you can do is lock threads, I don't think that does much that can't be restarted in a new thread.

Default Oh, here\'s an idea!

I don't know if this is possible or not...

but on Slashdot, we have ratings we give to posts, and if it falls below or above a threshold (informative or trollbait) - I can't even see it -

can we have the option to block people with less then a certain number of posts? - get rid of guys who just come back every week? -

Come on Whiskeytown, if they got rid of all the crap in here, you could print the contents of this forum on the back of a postage stamp, do the same in the zoo and OOT and you would reduce the posts on 2+2 by 80% at least. Also just because you are mature enough not to engage in meaningless discussions about what people are wearing doesn't mean you can expect the same of all the 12 year old social misfits who inhabit this cess-pit of humanity that we call the WTP forum.

Dynasty, if I had your power I would ban Paul Phillipes and Phil Helmuth for making a Jopke out of this forum.

If you had his power vince, there'd be about 5 people still able to post here.

Hi Byron

My guess is you would be one of them, and Vince would be the other 4.

It occurred to me that a flame forum would be nice. Then you could move all the dengenerate threads there and let the kids scrap in their own little sand box. I kind of view the WPT as the defacto flame forum (though OOT tries to take the title every now and then), but obviously without mods actually moving threads.

Can you move threads between forums?
