Default Online guy going to Winstar for first live NL action

Hi all... first B&M post.

Had a real quick question. I read through the stickied post and it was quite helpful. I've played some limit and spread limit live, but never NL.

I just wanted to ask what was the norm if two players are all in before the river. Do they turn over their cards before the rest of the cards are shown, or do you leave them facedown?

Otherwise, I'm excited to finally get some live NL action in my arsenal.

Thanks for any assistance.

Brad

In my experience, only in tournaments do they do that. In live action, players tend to keep their hole cards hidden until they win. Not always, but usually. 6 of one, half dozen of the other, imo. Have a good time and good luck.

Most of the guys at winstar will just flip their hands over, the older guys are less eager to do so however. Every time Im in a hand like that I dont hestitate to open up my cards, but you will find some slow rollers out there. Oh and by the way, PM if you are going to winstar today, I want to go and will chip in on gas money, I live in Carrollton.

^^
What they said.

Good luck, Brad, and be sure and let us know how it goes.

I'll likely be heading up that way in the next couple of weeks for my first ever B&M poker experience. I'll probably stick to limit, though. I play plenty of NL in home games, but I have far more confidence in my limit game when it comes to complete strangers.

The lowest limit Winstar has is 4/8. I would guess the player skill level is par to below average. All I can say is get there early. That place will fill up quickly.

Does any one else find it sad we cant have legal card rooms in Texas?

I find it more ironic... after all the most popular game out there is "Texas Hold Em"

Blue Laws = Stupid + offensive

Law is not for regulating morality.

Pretty much. Dang Baptists.

If you want to get some beer for a noon football game and don't want to miss the kickoff, you'd better pick it up on Saturday. I can remember back when even the malls were closed on Sunday.

Yeah. I've heard all about it. There are some players in my regular game who've been there several times. They're not on the grad student budget I am, though. They actually have real jobs.

Weekends are tight, but I don't have class until 3 PM on Wednesdays, so chances are good I'll play on an "Aces Cracked" Tuesday.

I usually go on Monday and Friday and play the 5/10 NL games. I love $100 splash pot mondays ;-p

Thinking of going there pretty soon myself. Had a question though. On the NL games, do you just buy in at the table? I've only played 2/4 in Shreveport once and I had to get my chips from the cashier and take to the table.

You don't have to flip them if it is not a tournament.

One time two players were allin preflopin a NL game. One guy won the hand with aces up. The other guy showed one card, a queen. It seemed kind of odd, because unless he was a real fish, the other card had to also be a queen.
