Default Re: Flopped set, Right play?

I think this is a case for not betting the river since nobody calls unless they beat you.

Nope, nope, nope. Too many donks will call you down with absolute crap. For example:

Hero is in MP with AKs, and we're getting near the bubble. He raises 3BB, and gets a call from the button. Flop is Axx, rainbow. Beautiful.

Hero bets 1/2 the pot, button calls. Okay.

Turn is a brick that completes the rainbow, with no obvious draws.

Hero bets 1/2 the pot again, and the button calls again. WTF? Slow playing a set? Top two pair? Am I ahead? Behind? Tied?

River is nothing special, Hero checks, totally unsure of what he'll do if the villain bets. Villain checks behind and turns over AJ.

Donks.

I understand it, but in this case put the player on a range of hands and try to figure out what you beat and he would call, what you beat and he wouldn't call any bet (missed draws) and what he beats you with. It seems to me that the majority of the time you bet and he folds or you bet and he has you beat. Of course often you want to bet. But here, it just appears that it's not the right situation given how the hand played out.
