Right NOW the Giambino is the best hitter in the lineup. So I think 3rd is good, for right now. I really like him and matsui split up by sheff then them hitting back to back. I dont see how you cant like this lineup matsui is a better hitter with RISP then a-rod and he will get quite a few chances with this lineup. IMO

he'll bat with less men on, but he'll bat more often and with less outs.

makes sense. but

1. does someone in the 2 spot really get that many more PAs than the 3 or 4? that seems marginal.

2. does the fact that matsui and co will hit with more men on in better positions cancel out for how arod wont hit with men on very often?

i dunno, it just seems weird to have the best, most versatile hitter batting 2. but it makes sense i guess.

1. Every spot in the lineup gets about 20 more PA then the spot below it.
2. Yes, by far. Countless simulations have been run that show that the best lineup construction is essentilly 1) a guy like Jeter, 2) your best hitters down the list. Adjust for lefty/righty split, etc.

im guessing speed plays a bit of a part, the difference between your giambis/ortizs and the arods of the world is big. but thats got to only work in favor of arod being higher up.

so

jeter
arod
sheff
matsui
giambi (2005 edition)

[/ QUOTE ] look at how many AB's lead off hitters get, and compare them to the number of BA's number 3 and 4 hitters get. Look at season totals, there is a huge difference.

I think putting Giambi 5th is a clear error. He's in all likelihood your best hitter, if he's not he isn't far from it.

give it a rest man. that quote does kind of apply to what I think about him being an ex steroid user, I really didnt want to cheer for him. but he admitted what he did, took the blame and didnt complain, and went to work. that i can respect. so many other guys have used steroids (probably a bunch on the red sox and a bunch on every team, for that matter) that its unfair to him to single him out. I'll still always have sort of mixed feelings about him for what he did, but i think hes handled it very well given the circumstances.

As for if he's using now, thats highly unlikely, and theres zero evidence.
