The 2002 WSOP champion, Robert Varkonyi, has a degree in Computer Science from MIT. There is a lot of math involved in a CS major.

I have a degree in Computer Science from MIT also. And I didn't win any WSOP tournaments.. not even one of the smaller ones.

Like I've always said, I'll wipe my ass with any degree or diploma of anyone who doesn't appreciate what they've learned about Math. Math is the mother of all subjects. Math makes you think faster and more accurately. There is math involved in almost every aspect of your life. The better you are in math the better you will be in every aspect of your life which could mean a significant improvement in your poker skills, however, remeber that poker also includes a bit of psicology and discipline.

so whomever quoted: "In Poker, Math is MEANINGLESS!" is just mad at him/herself for not being good at either one.

From a high school graduate, currently working as a Manager.

Think again!!!

Knowing an opponent's mannerisms doesnt give you odds to hit your flush draw. That is all.

I haven't read the article but I highly doubt Mike Caro is frustrated at being no good at math and poker.

Bluff Magazine: Mike Caro's column: WISDOM, improve your game p.96.

"In poker, math is meaningless..." Mike Caro.

Sure once in a while it comes in handy he says but really it is meaningless.

[/ QUOTE ]

I hope you realize that Caro is right. Math is meaningless without context, which is something that *alot* of 2+2er's seem to miss even if they claim they dont.

Everyone knows that Computer Science has nothing to do with Math. In fact it might be more appropriate to call the degree a "Fuzzy Logic" degree. Besides everyone also knows that computer scientists are verifiably insane and inane or just plain mundane. That's why they are good at poker, they understand crazy people. Yes, a computer scientist that is good at poker just might prove Caro right. "Psychology is everything." (LoL) Oh...MIT... good school, lousy football team.

Strong knowledge of math is a must
To keep you from going bust
But experts agree
That psychology
Is how they all make their living off Gus

Though I appreciate the alliteration I'm pretty sure you are absolutely wrong. Computer science is a very math intensive degree, and for the most part having a computer science degree doesn't affect ones mental stability.

In 2+2, quoting articles without context is MEANINGLESS!
