Those who said other nations won\'t help out.
What is your take on the recent news? From EU countries opening up their emergency oil reserves, to universities abroad offering to take in hundreds NO students for the winter quarter?
Yes, some countries that the US has helped in the past are simply unable to help because they are too poor themselves (Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka etc), but I never doubted that those countries who can, will. |

My take is that I was wrong. In this case, I'm happy I was.

While it's true that anti-American bigotry and hatred is rampant around the world, it's hard to maintain such hateful and bigoted ideas when confronted by images of actual human beings suffering.
I'm not surprised at the offers of help from others around the world. We're all human after all - and perhaps this will remind at least some around the world of that simple fact. |

A small part of help from your northen neighbours descrived here: cbc link
A lot of people up here p'oed about the delays from all sides. Seems very similiar to the Tsunami in that respect yet there is clearly no way it should have been this much of a surprise. Hundreds of people packing up trucks with private donations and heading to the border just as with 9/11. And as with 9/11 and other US emergencies, it is perhaps just as important that Americans know that they have people outside their borders that are clamouring to support and help them during a tragedy. |

Jamaica offered assistance, as well as Canada. They were both turned down by federal autorities.
Canada had urban rescue units ready to go, but they were denied entrance by DHS. Melch |
