Default Split pots online

Quick question.

Why do online poker rooms insist on pretending that they can't divide chips at the table? Example: 34.50 is split between me and someone else, He gets 17.50, I get 17. In a live game the dealers will usually even make change for a split but I'm supposed to believe that online this is unable to happen?

I understand that it has little to no impact over time because it could just as easily work out in my favor, but nonetheless, there's no good reason for it.

Am I missing something here?

i've never seen dealers make change to make it an even split. unless it's like an odd $5 chip, and then they'll chop it into 5 $1's, but then there's still an odd $1 chip, which will go to the guy closest to the button, as outlined by the rules.

of course it's so easy to just actually split it up online.. why don't they do it? i don't know.

Some sites actually split you up to the pennies. I don't know why some others don't. I think for the case of Party is they don't feel like drawing chips of lower than 25 cent denomination...

The prima sites split it up, I thought it was really annoying.
