Default A2 checkraise

4-8 hold'em at local B&M.

I'm in SB with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
UTG calls, cutoff calls, I call, BB checks
UTG is older man, just sat down at the table & I have no read.

3 SB in pot (rake subtracted)
Flop: AQT rainbow, one [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
I check, BB checks, UTG bets, CO folds.
I checkraise. UTG thinks for a while and asks me if I caught a piece of that flop, then finally calls.

2.5 BB in pot
Turn [AQT] 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (no flush draw)
I bet, UTG calls

4.5 BB in pot
River [AQT5] 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
I bet, UTG calls.

I like this play but I think you need to be able to get away from the hand if you face more aggression, because there are a lot of ways you could be in real bad shape. But chances are you are either ahead or against another A, and even though your kicker stinks, there's a good chance his kicker won't player either because there's two other high cards out. Plus your BD flush draw is a nice bonus too.

It's also a good play because live I think you're getting called by a Q or a T (especially KQ/KT/QJ/JT) almost always. Sometimes even a pocket pair KK/JJ/99 through 22.

In other contexts, it might be best to play this hand with a WA/WB (Way ahead / Way behind) approach. Search the archives for examples of this line.

UTG flips over AKo to my suprise and takes it down.

The checkraise was to get UTG to fold Ax, but when he put so much thought into the call I figured he had something like KQ or QJ.

I was a little surprised when he called the turn bet, but when the river put a pair on the board I iigured we were splitting the pot at worst. I bet just in case he was asleep and would fold Ax.

I think the pot is too small to try a c/r. The reward isn't big enough. You either Lose a ton of money or you win a small pot.

You aren't gonna get him to fold with that c/r. Mind as well call down?

EDIT: Do not call down. Just fold. Too expensive to find out.
