He's in a casino, at a table, with chips and able to play. I'd play him but do two things different than I would against a non-mentally deficient fish:

1. Try to make the experience enjoyable socially to the extent I can (ie. chatting, being friendly)

2.) Checking down head up (I can afford to donate a little EV to let him have a little more fun time at the table).

Other than that, it's poker as usual.

Default am i an ass?

been reading posts about drunks, lags, mental handicaps, etc.

my general opinion is i play my game 100%. poker is so beautiful because anyone can play. its not like theres a special olympics for poker (is there?).

if i bust a drunk, comp. gambler or a mentally retarded person I don't think i'd even flinch. does this make me an a$$? all i know is that when I play live, i play my game and try to have/spread the enjoyment of the game.

Take his money at the poker table and then donate the $$ you took from him to charity. You get to maintain your cutthroat principles at the table, as well as feel all warm and squishy inside for being a Good Guy (even though making that $$ was easier than breathing). And hopefully, the folks getting the donation will use it in a better fashion than this guy did .

Seriously, it's a win-win-win situation.

There are people who gamble to lose. Thats right, they expect to lose. Why disappoint them? They want to be humiliated, its part of the thrill of gambling for them. These individuals often have the same type of psychological profile as men who visit a dominatrix, in their minds losing is their answer to address their own psychological demons.

When I have a serious live on at the table, I work with him to help him loose his money, so that he enjoys himself at the same time. For example recently I played at a table where there was a very drunk man who played every hand, and raised preflop with no clear vision (obviously he was trying to confuse us with his 740 UTG raise, eh?). He probably bought in for $300 and at one point was up over $1300 at a 10/20 game. The other players at the table were complaining out loud, and berating his playing style. I jumped to his defense by saying that they were all jealous because he won, and they were all losers... so let the man enjoy his game, and you focus on your own game (or something like that).

Suffice to say my drunken maniac appreciated the support, and quickly dumped his entire stack back onto the table. In my two hours at the table there was only one time when he considered folding pre-flop, but when he looked at me I said "don't let me down man.... show me that winning attitude"... after which he of course called down to the river with nothing. But oddly... he was happy. He came to gamble, and gamble he did... by losing everything.

Moral of this rambling post.... don't judge the actions of a maniac or a drunkard at the table. Let them be free to express themselves by spewing their chips, its why they came to play in the first place.

that might have been me....did he throw up half a belly of cheap scotch after the hand in the wastebasket near the bar/cage?

- kidding of course... -

gawd, I think I'd have to change tables - I finally found something my twisted shred of morality couldn't do.

RB

p.s. - I'm really pissed they pulled the 7777 promotion from midnight to 6am - that kept me awake and playing 77 to the turn where I'd usually hit trips....LOL

I have to say, out of all the 2+2'ers and others I have played with live, you are the best at table banter. I was playing 5/10 earlier today and had a cpl live ones (not drunk though, no alcohol...) and tried to make conversation and it worked for a while, kept them distracted and made them happy and they kept dumping chips...when ppl started berating them for the suckouts they seemed to tighten up and I was not good enough to loosen them back up

You have to tell me your secrets at some point...

You gotta be joking right? How does a mentally retarded person earn enough money to play even low limit poker? He must have had cerbal palsy, that doesn't affect intelligence yet they can look like mentally retarded people.....
