by your description, you friend S shouldn't be betting a Q here or even trip. so i'd put him on a straight minimum. from the caller's action, it seems like he had a one card straight as well (if he plays like i do, anyways) or at least something like a set. regardless of what the maniac has, his raise reduces your odds to call.

if you call and everyone calls, u might end up chopping 3 way;

if you call and S or T 3 bets, u know you are losing;

if you weeraise and everyone all call, u will still chop at least 3 ways;

if you weeraise and S folds (unlikely) or T folds (unlikely), u are still gonna chop 2 way at least.

is it worth 2BB immediately and possibly 3 or 4 BB to fight to chop this 9BB pot?

i'd say 3 bet or fold, with folding being the favorite.

I think what I meant by the hmmm was that something doesn't add up. Josh hates to be first and I hate to be first. But Josh pays money to go first by calling from the SB, and I fold. It's the same hate of firstness that we share, but we take absolutely opposite actions when we are offered the greatest recurring opportunity in poker to not go first. Hmmm.
