Default Spewing with a weak pair

I do this alot when I think I have a decent chance to get heads up with a pair against a preflop raiser on a board that likely missed him. I don't know if I like it, though.

UTG is 40/15 and aggressive postflop. Button and SB are loose passives (55/5 types).

Hero is BB with 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].

PREFLOP: UTG raises, 2 folds, Button calls, SB calls, Hero calls.

FLOP:(4 players) T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
Hero bets.................

Obviously the plan is for UTG to raise and drive out the other two monkeys. But I think alot of conditions need to be met for this to be +EV.)

1) UTG has to have overcards
2) UTG has to raise
3) Both monkeys have to fold

Even this scenario doesn't seem so wonderful. I will have no choice but to go into call down mode. He will bet the turn and the river when I lose but sometimes check behind on the river when I win.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Cartman

I think you played it correctly. Considering the size of the pot and the fact that you usually have 5 outs when behind, I think betting out here is a +EV play. If you know your opponent never would raise with overs, then checking and reevaluating is the better play. Yea, getting to the showdown after raised sort of has reverse implied odds, but I think you just have to accept that. If you could bet river/fold to raise thats great, but against a lot of people you can't feel comfortable and check/calling is better. Also, a lot of bozos in this game will bet the river with AK, KQ, etc. anyway.

What about the same play with 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] instead of 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]?

I would bet any pair on that raggedy, uncoordinated board.

55 is a lot worse in this situation, the 5 outs with 65 compared to 2 outs with 55 really makes a difference for your EV.
