Default a tough situation?

house game. about 4 players finished flop raises and everything. flop comes.... somebody bets and, some call and fold till the last person who was thinking on what to do.... then the dealer thought everybody decided and flipped the card before the last player could decide? We didn't know what to do? some said burn the shown turn card, let the last person decide and then play the next card as the turn. people didn't agree w/ that. so i said just muck the hand take the money back and deal over since we were all friends. the one new guy who never played before (friend of a friend and the person that bet) was pissed off he said the people that were in on the flop should hold there 2 cards and we should reshuffle and redeal out the flop. then continue the game. obviously he had a good hand i guess. we didn't know what to do? The guy that actually didn't have a chance to bet flopped a boat and was going to raise the bettor since he is somewhat of a maniac and refuses to slowplay. the turn would have gave him a 4 of a kind so i felt bad if we just burned the card that was shown earlier.

we decided to redeal the hand after much complaint from the new guy... he was bitching for 5 min. he wanted to take the other guys $$.. finally i said "bleep. shut up he had a 4 of a kind could you beat that". then he said no and good thing we just mucked the hand. he had KQs. big deal i say he had nothign and was trying to take the pot or something.

what is the correct thing to do?

i believe the correct procedure is to deal out what would have been the river card as the turn, then shuffle the exposed turn card into the stub and deal the river.

Shuffle the turned card back into the remaining cards, complete the action, and redeal the card.

Straight from Robert's Rules of Poker:

Fourth or fifth card is turned up before betting is complete; the card is not in play. After completion of betting (from the interrupted round), the dealer will reshuffle the deck, (including the card that was taken out of play, but not the burn cards or muck. The top card off the deck will be the next community card as a burn card was already laid down.

If the turn card is exposed beofer action is complete, the correct action is:

1. take the exposed card aside
2. burn
3. deal athe next card as the turn (would have been the river card)
4. Take the remaining deck and exposed card (not the mucks or burns) and reshuffle
5. Deal the first card off the deck

This keeps as many of the cards that "should" have been in play in play, and returns the possibility of the exposed card coming back into play.

It's the only way.

It's not the only way and you're way is against the way it's done in most casinos.

Not true.

I watched this very procedure take place last time I played live.
