the dreaded AQo rears its ugly head again
position is CO, first hour of the tourney, blinds 50/100, just moved to this table. I have 2500 in chips. Dealt AQo. MP1 and MP2 both limp, the guy to my immediate right, who has 1700 in chips, makes it 500. What do you do?
I hate playing AQ! |

Re: the dreaded AQo rears its ugly head again
wow, surprised to see you guys say push....it is very early in the tourney (15 minute rounds) and I think AQ is the ultimate trouble hand coming in behind a raise.

Re: the dreaded AQo rears its ugly head again
If you don't like pushing, the other alternative is folding, but you can't call 1/5th of your stack here, particularly since you're out of position for a stop and go, and any smaller raise is going to pot commit you anyway.

I hate playing AQ! [/ QUOTE ] Yes...my personal HAND OF DEATH. Most recent reminder was losing heads up TO a guy with AQ with my holding KK and him flopping QQ. AARRGGHHH! In your case, I'd probably muck the hand. How was his play up to that point? If he was in a lot of hands, maybe he's stealing. If he's invisible up to that point, he's got JJ or higher. Risking 20% of your stack pre-flop with AQo is probably not a great play. I tend towards tight play, so that's me. Still, that just seems like a little loose to call there. FWIW |

Push. [/ QUOTE ] or fold...it doesn't really matter. Just don't call. |

Re: the dreaded AQo rears its ugly head again
well I did just call, and a good news/bad news flop came for me of
J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] He without hesitation pushed and I folded after a long time. I folded...If he has AK, AJ, AT, any pair from aces to 8s I'm in big big trouble. I ultimately put him on JJ or TT. I didn't think 1/5th was that huge of a commitment at that point. I could prove to be wrong (still playing) |

Re: the dreaded AQo rears its ugly head again
The problem is that your opponent has already put so much of his stack in that he could very well be doing this with anything.
Let me ask a different question: If the flop comes Q high, I assume you're calling. How about A high? |

Re: the dreaded AQo rears its ugly head again
The flop texture was awful for me. if it comes either Q or A high, I am calling. Only a couple of hands beat me there, and my first instinct preflop was that he was raising a medium pair (I don't know why). With this flop, almost every reasonable raising hand in late position has me way beat, or drawing to a 10 outter.
