Default Getting tired hearing about jackpots in live 3/6 games

What do you say to someone who argues that if you have an Ax with A A on the board, that you need to check instead of bet because you are being foolish if you bet because you could kill a jackpot, should I start wearing earplugs when I play?

I assume you mean like a "bad beat" jackpot or something. These are designed to get weak players in the cardroom. I like to make money playing poker, not relying on these stupid promos. Just wear earplugs.

The Jameser has it right, don't say anything to them, just play dumb and say "oh, ok, I'll try to remember that." Don't tell idiots how to play better or how to make money.

I had a guy at a live game claim he won 80% of the hands when he played his favorite hand, which was...get this...8,4. He was dead serious, and I just nodded and pretended I believed him. I think I made up my own favorite hand and said it was like 89 to keep him feeling good about "lucky" hands.

There was an instance a few weeks ago at the local casino where some 21-year-old kid didn't know the rules of the BB jackpot and ended up screwing the table by playing his hand, he only used one of his cards when the rules stated he needed to use both. Well it sounded like the people at the table were interested in following him out of the place and getting some street justice. Just a factor to consider if you're in a position to mess up the jackpot.

Ignorant question: How does he decide how many cards to use? Is it not just the best 5 card hand?

I'm pretty sure the local casino rules are that if your aces full are beat by four-of-a-kind you win.

So if you have AA and oppenent 99 and the board is A99xx. Your aces full of nines would lose to the four nines and the jackpot would be awarded.

However, let's say you hold A9, another player A7 and another 88. If the board is AA988, normally your acess full would lose to the four 8's. However, if the person with A7 stayed in the hand he would also have AAA88 like you, however because he didn't use both of his cards to make the hand you wouldn't be eligible for the jackpot.

I hope that makes sense.

You'd still have AAA99, with both cards playing, so I'm confused.
