Default AJs played as bad as villians says I did?

so playing on DoylesRoom late last night 0.25/0.50 NL. I don't have a hand history so this is off the top of my head. No real read on villian but seemed like a decent player, wasn't playing too many pots. He had won a very large pot at another table I was at with a set.

Hero and villian have about the same stack size, I believe about $80 or so (it was about $160 pot at the end). Hero is in early position and villian in the next seat behind. Hero is dealt Ad Jd and raises $2 or 3. Villian calls, everyone else folds. Flop came 10-x-x, rainbow. Hero bets out $2, villian reraises $4 more, hero reraises $10 and villian quickly calls. Fourth street comes a Jack and I bet a good amount (at least half pot or more) and villian pushes. Hero calls.

Villian shows AT and starts screaming at me at how lucky I was and what a terrible play it was reraising him on the flop with only three outs. Was that really such a bad play reraising him on the flop? I know I did get lucky, but I thought he shouldn't have pushed on fourth street when an overcard to his pair fell.

I think both your plays were bad. His was definately worse...

I definately would not have reraised on the flop. He definately should not have push on the turn unless he had a read on you. I can't see why one of you din't think that the other had at least an overpair or two pair or a set.

It nice when mistakes pay off though...Poker is a great game.

So ugly. Count the mistakes:

1. You, raising preflop AJ in EP
2. Him, calling a raise preflop with AT in MP
3. You, backing up the preflop raise from EP with a meek underpot bet
4. Him, raising the flop bet with a pair of tens when all play before indicates that the villain has an overpair
5. You, calling that good sized reraise with ace high
6. Him, pushing all his chips in the middle with second pair on the board when at least 6 very plausible hands beat him and and he beats nothing other than a pure bluff
7. You, calling that bet with just TPTK

Yes, you won money here, but how often do you expect to make money playing like this against someone about whom you say "No real read on villian but seemed like a decent player, wasn't playing too many pots." How often do you expect to see a hand you beat here? You both deserve a lecture....ugliest hand I have seen in a long while.

I would love to get in that game though.

1 isn't bad if its 6max but this looked like full ring.

1 also isn't bad if players are tight.

Thanks. Exactly the smack in the face I needed. Definitely bad plays on my part and I think I knew it at the time, but I wanted to see what happened if I reraised him on the flop. Lots of factors - getting late and tired, hadn't been getting too many cards the whole day, too many other players at the table playing weak holdings and I thought I could get away with it. no excuses though.

What if I was in the big blind and it was folded to me? Raise/no raise?

How much of a bet on the flop is needed? 3/4-full pot size? Typically I had been going 1/2-3/4 pot flop bet. Is that not enough?

Well, with nobody else in the pot, you should probably just pick up the SB, return your hand to the dealer, and post your SB for the next hand...

I meant if villian limped in and folded to me in big blind.
