Default Tips for reducing eyestrain

Does anyone have any tips for reducing eyestrain from staring at the computer all day? I've been playing online poker for quite some time now and I think it's ruining my eyesight! Is there a particular monitor or video card I could buy? Thank you.

here are some i have heard:
1- reduce glare- some say fluorescent light is a big no no. if you have a glare on your monitor try to reposition the monitor or adjust the lighting.
2- don't stare at the monitor for extended periods
blink
3- keep monitor a safe distance from eyes (20 inches or so)
4- when i am forced to play in a dark room, my eyes start to hurt, so that cant be a good sign either.
5- win more. i find my eyes feel alot better when i am winning.

It depends in large part on your setup. Reducing eyestrain is best done by getting at it from multiple angles.

If you have a CRT monitor, get your refresh rate to about 85 hz. It helps if the monitor itself has an antiglare surface (actually, PM if you want to buy one, because I upgraded to a 2001FP). If you have an LCD monitor, the refresh rate won't matter.

Don't view the monitor in low light. Turning off the lights and watching a monitor appears to be really popular, but this is no good for your eyes because your pupils will be opening up more due to the lack of ambient light, making them take in more light than is necessary to see your screen. Then again, if keeping the lights on causes a lot of glare on the monitor you're using, that's not good either.

Take breaks. Every 15-30 minutes is good. Get up, walk around, maybe walk around outside. Tough if you're playing poker, but oh well. Constant staring at the screen is not good for you.

Use eyedrops. Not saline solution, but artificial tears. These can help with dryness if that's part of your problem.

A good thing to do is every 5-10 minute take a few seconds to focus on an object that is much farther away than the monitor. Something across the room, or outside.

I've heard this called the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, spend 20 seconds looking at something 20 feet away.

Go the F outside once in a while and get away from the computer. While you're out get some exercise, you've gained a little weight since you started playing online poker so much.

While you're out, stop and DQ and bring me back a large PB sundae, i'd get it myself but i've got 3 cash games up and two MTT's that i'm only 3 hours into.

Thanks.

Default Look away

Changing focus exercises your eyes and some experts claim can actually improve your vision to the point of eliminating corrective lenses. Look away from the monitor often and focus on something a different distance away. Naked girl on a calendar works well. Real one works better.
