Umm.. there's a mathematical answer to this question. Use ICM, throw in the odds of hitting a set, and mess around with various % chances of doubling up/getting stacked/earning a pot sized bet, etc. I imagine you can get a good idea of % of effective stack you can call preflop.

Yup, been there.

The real issue of course is the %s you use. If beefy and I did the same calculations he'd get like +3000% ROI based on tripling through like almost all the time and I'd get a slight loss.

It'd be nice to actually see this worked out. I'd do it myself if I thought I had a good grasp of the %s.

Alright, my thoughts on preflop. You have to win 8 times as preflop to break even. So call it 9-10 times to make it a real profit. If you only do it half the time, then you need to make 18-20x the raise. So if I can stack a guy once in 18 times I see the flop for 80 chips, then I need to have 1440 chips in my stack. I have more than that.

So I think 80 chips is a call and 100 chips isn't, unless I am certain the pot will be multiway.

Before I read any of the repies I was thinking raise this to 650 - 700.

I think a push is ok and a raise as small as 500 is ok.
