Getting owned; two hands for checkup
Running at -5.41 BB/100 is bad, right?
Feels like my hole cards are being dealt face up the last couple days... how do these look? Pokerroom 1/2 1 limper, I raise with 99 in MP. CO cold calls, SB and BB fold, limper calls. 3 to the flop for 7.5 SB Flop 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Limper checks, I bet, CO raises, I call. Turn (5.75 BB) K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] I check/call because I have the 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] River (7.75 BB) 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I check/fold. Another one, same game. Folded to me in CO with A7o. I raise, SB 3-bets, BB calls two cold, I call. Flop: A, 4, 5 rainbow. SB bets, BB calls, I raise, SB 3-bets, BB calls, I call Turn: Q SB bets, BB calls, I call. River: K SB Bets, BB calls, I only beat JJ at this point but I call getting 14:1. Can you find a fold here? And how was the first hand? |

Re: Getting owned; two hands for checkup
I check/fold hand 1. Might be weak, but your up against 2 opponents here who could easily have the K or T. The cold caller most definitly has something here, the limper could easily have QT or some random holding.
Even if they don't, 99 won't hold up often unimproved. Ignore the flush draw, the outs could be counterfitted at this stage. Definitly fold to the raise. I fold A7o. My minimum is A9o in this position. |

I take the same line on hand 1.
Hand 2...eh, uh, ugh. I personally wouldn't raise here. I think I check/call my way down. I have position and TP, but low kicker. |

Re: Getting owned; two hands for checkup
hey SC,
in the 1st hand, i fold to CO's raise. 2 overs, you're probably drawing to 2 outs. in the 2nd hand, when he 3-bets you pre-flop and then again on the flop with an A on the board, he's not afraid of you. when he bets the turn, and BB keeps coming along too, i think i'm done... |

Re: Getting owned; two hands for checkup
hand 1: Fold to the raise on the flop, unless you think doing so will adversely effect your table image for down the road. In that case I call then fold the turn unimproved. I probably still ditch the hand on the turn even with that diamond draw.
hand 2: Folding this hand preflop is absurd. Easy raise here. Though I think you went too far with it when you ran into that aggression. I'd probably be looking to ditch it on the turn. Read-dependent. I don't hate calling down, though, especially with that 3rd guy who's probably padding the pot. |

Hand 2:
2 Big Mistakes. A7o is not a raising hand, I dont even play it. Even worse, however, is cold-calling a raise with A7o. |

Re: Getting owned; two hands for checkup
2 mistakes on your post:
1) At no point did he ever cold call. 2) A7o is a pretty damn good hand on the cutoff when it's folded to you. I don't see how on earth you can fold this. And since you should play it, raising is probably better, in order to hopefully buy the button and take control of the hand against typical low limit players who often call with anything in the blinds. |

Re: Getting owned; two hands for checkup
A7o is a very strong hand when it is folded to you in the CO.
I'll raise A7o way, way more often than I'll fold it in these circumstances -- I can say with certainty that I will not be open-limping with it. But I'll also not raise the flop when I'm closing the action without a stupendous read. Just call getting 11:1, hoping you have the best hand but really looking for a turned 7 (where it gets interesting) or a turned OESD that presents a profitable call. Raising this flop is generally not a good play IMHO in these cirumstances -- if a flop raise could buy a free turn, then maybe, but I don't think you buy a free turn in what looks to be an obvious steal situation, and you open yourself to a cap when SB or BB actually has a very strong hand. |

Re: Getting owned; two hands for checkup
I don't know if i'm a fan of the PF raise but thats just me... I've been in too many situations like that where i lose a lot of my $ due to kicker trouble. On this basis...
The 3 bet PF leads you to believe he has a strong hand. With an ace flopping he reraises you, so you must believe that he has ace higher kick (what other kick could he have?). I'd probably lay it down on turn if not on the flop (you could only catch the 7 to improve I believe and I'm not a fan of 3 outers.) I'd expect him to flip over AK-A10 or AA or another flopped set. |
